Los Angeles — Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is proud to announce its Summer & Fall 2024 season of LAX Presents, a multi-cultural and experimental performance series for guests to enjoy at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). In partnership with DUBLAB and Rum & Humble, performances are staged in Terminals 1 and 7. This season's program runs from July through December and premiered in Terminal 7 with Christopher Rountree and M.A. Tiesenga of Wild Up, a Los Angeles-based contemporary classical and pop music ensemble, and in Terminal 1 with Sameer Gupta.
"The performing arts have always been a seminal pillar in the culture of Los Angeles,” said John Ackerman, Chief Executive Officer, LAWA. “To represent the vibrant communities that make up our city, LAX is excited to serve as a stage to showcase outstanding artists right here to the rest of the world.”
For the ninth season of LAX Presents, LAWA is pleased to host 18 stand-out artists over the second half of the year. From Raga-Jazz fusion artist Sameer Gupta, whose rhythmic compositions draw from North Indian traditional music and American Jazz percussion, to TEN, a Japanese Koto (plucked half-tube zither) ensemble led by Yuki Yasuda, as well as the all-star cast of DUBLAB’s resident DJs whose groovy sets feature soul, disco, techno, and everything in between. The series finales with Los Angeles’ beloved Bob Baker Marionette Theatre, whose exciting and playful puppeteering brings joy to audiences of all ages.
“LAX is proud to provide a platform for local artists to share their work with an international audience. And conversely, LAX is thrilled we can occasionally feature renown, international artists who are touring through Los Angeles, such as South African jazz artist Nduduzo Makhathini. This season will enrich the travel experience for all who pass through the airport and give a voice to the creative spirit of the region,” said Sarah Cifarelli, LAX Art Program Director.
Martin Fleishman, Director of Rum & Humble, added: “We are, once again, thrilled to provide the traveling public at LAX with these performances of musicians from a wide sampling of the cultures Los Angeles is home to. It’s always a pleasure to see smiles on people’s faces as they encounter live music as an unexpected part of their journey.”
"These live performances at LAX will bring the sounds of our homegrown talent to the ears of people from around the world,” says Alejandro Cohen, Executive Director of DUBLAB, “We hope to not only make the airport a pleasant experience for travelers, but to also inspire and welcome them to Los Angeles or say farewell as they catch a flight to another city.”
